Using Colors as Meditative Aids
Colors hold much more meaning than we imagine. Many people use color as aids to meditation and contemplative practices. We all would do well to integrate color meditation into our daily lives. One of my favorites is the color blue, because it invokes a calming, tranquil effect. Blue is the universal color of healing. It can lower a person’s heart rate and inhibit hunger pains. It has the power to calm the body and spirit. A cooling color, blue has astringent and electric qualities as well as tranquil, calming abilities. Using it for color meditation will allow you to be enveloped in the vastness and openness of space and the ocean.
Meditating with ColorMany people choose their favorite color for meditative purposes. Visualize yourself seated in a room. Then, allow a color to enter your mind before slowly melting and enveloping your body and mind. Feel each color as you meditate, letting them surround and melt around you. As you meditate, don’t let your thoughts run away from you - simply let them pass through your mind without following. Instead, focus on the all-encompassing colors around you.

The Joy of Meditating with Color
Leonardo da Vinci, the gifted painter, once said that the power of meditation can be increased ten times by resting under the violent light underneath a stained glass window if a quite church. This can be said about all the colors, which serve a purpose to free and heal the mind. Meditating on colors allow a person to be enveloped in the beauty of the world in its simplest form.
